Baby Shower Invite

I am helping to give a baby shower for one of my neighbors and I am in charge of the invitations. It has been a long time since I have given a shower, so, of course, I went a little overboard with the invitations.
I took some pictures of the project in different stages. The template for the actual diaper I found at :
This project took a little longer than I thought, but it was not difficult. Try it out with different patterned paper for the diaper. I had my own die cuts, but you could use real safety pins. Get creative.

Bench re-do

Lately I have been noticing all of these cute benches on people's porches and thought, "I could do that." So I looked at several stores at new benches of all sorts, but just couldn't find anything that jumped out at me. Then I started looking at used ones that I could make into whatever I wanted. I finally found this beauty for $10. She was painted with a greenish black paint, a vinyl seat and the backrest was raw wood covered with a piece of fabric from the 1970's. She was PERFECT! I took her apart and repainted her to match my front door. My husband hasn't finished making her new seat yet, so I put the vinyl back on for now. I also purchased a large cushion to put on the new seat when totally completed.
I think she looks great on the porch. Go ahead, you can do this too.

Surprise party

We found out earlier in the year that my husband had NEVER had a birthday party, so we decided that it was about time that he did. We decided to make it a surprise. This is what we did for the invitations. I bought some heavy cardstock that looked nice and ran it through the printer to get the "top secret" logo on. Luckily a good friend loaned me her die for the folder and I placed it just right to get the logo in the correct place. I purchased some sticker sheets and printed about 20 pictures on each sheet. It was easy to adhere them to the inside cover. I made several pages to go inside the invitation.

1- Operation Surprise: told what was going to happen

2- Date, time and place

3- Statistics: gave facts about my husband ( schooling, employment, hobbies, etc.)

4- Family: had pictures of all of us

5- Map

Each page was printed on different color paper and attached to the folder with a paper clip. The party turned out great and there were many comments on the invitation.

We will now pause for a short break

I hope that some of you took advantage of that book special! I will let you know when it turns up again. I am taking a short break to plan and pull off a "Surprise", so my creativity is needed somewhere else until mid-October. Hopefully my sister will add a few things in my absence.

Funky Lamp Shade

My daughter thought her old lamp was too boring to go in her funky bedroom, so instead of purchasing a new lamp, we improvised. First, we spray painted the base lime green to match her decor.

Then, we used mod podge to attach the tissue paper to the lamp shade. We just happened to find some tissue paper that had the exact colors of her room.

As you can see, this has already changed the lamp to a whole new look. We could have stopped at this step and been happy. But, we took it a step further because my daughter couldn't decide between stripes or polka dots, so we did both. So we then put on another layer of tissue paper with the mod podge.

Then, we just added some fun trim to the bottom.

I have used tissue paper for several other projects as well. I have done a garbage can, picture frame, and a tissue box. I had a friend even do a whole wall in her family room with maroon tissue paper. It gives it a textured look. There are some really fun prints to choose from, but also solid colors as well.

Cute Book Cover

My niece will be getting baptized soon. A friend of mine showed me a cute covered book a few months ago, so I thought I would try it out on a songbook I purchased for my niece. I searched through all of my craft supplies and found that everything I needed I had on hand. I finished this project in less than an hour, and that included finding my supplies. Here is what I used: The book, 12x12 double sided cardstock, ribbon, flower, brad, scissors, bone folder, x-acto knife, glue, ruler and pencil.

I measured the book and cut the paper about 1/2 inch to 1 inch larger than the size of the book.

I folded all of the edges that needed to be folded and clipped some corners until it all fit just right.

I decided where I wanted the ribbon to go and used the knife to cut a slit to thread the ribbon through so that it would be hidden and secure.

I glued the paper to the book with the ribbon inside. Then I put the brad through the middle of the flower and made sure that it was also going through the ribbon.

I cut coordinating paper to go inside the cover to hide my mess and then I glued it. (The paper just so happened to be the pattern on the other side of my double sided cardstock.)

I tied the ribbon and I was done.

If I do this again, I would probably choose a larger flower, but I think that it looks cute.

I hope you didn't miss out

I hope that you didn't miss out on the great deal from Winkflash. I sent my order for my book on Sunday morning and received it in the mail today (Friday). They certainly are quick, and the books are good quality. If they have this promotion again, I will pass the details along. Comment to this post and let me know if you put together a book.

Fun Flowers

This is a fun project for a girls room. I just made a flower out of foam core and cut it out. Then, we had some old pool noodles that we cut for the center of the flower and the stem. We cut the stem on an angle to be able to see the flower at a better angle. I just hot glued them together and placed them in a pot. EASY

ADD SOME FLAIR TO YOUR WALLS WITH PAINT!

This is a picture of my daughter's room that I painted this year. I got the idea from a comforter that I saw in a JC Penney ad. I cut out a 2 foot square with rounded edges from a poster board. I then traced the square onto the wall, making sure to rotate the square as I went along so that each square wouldn't be the same symmetrically. I chose two shades of pink, two shades of brown and a white. I then free-handed the inside squares to look all different. I just did one wall like this and the others are painted with the lighter brown. Fun project!

Another wall that I just free-handed the flowers on. The "laugh" is done in vinyl.

If you don't want to pay the price for vinyl, you can do what I did in my son's room and paint the words on using paint. I just chose a font from my computer, chose the size I needed, and printed a copy out. I then cut out the letters and arranged them on my wall. Then I traced around the letters, removed them, and painted the outline in. Quite easy (although red paint is hard to work with).

Are you making a book?

I have been busy downloading my pictures to Winkflash and trying to get a book put together of our vacation, so I haven't posted anything very interesting yet. Be patient. I will be working on the book all week, when I can steal some time on the computer between when the kids are on it. At least I finally asked my sister Ruth to help contribute to the blog. You will see some wonderful things from her. She is very creative.
